Word Coupon definition
The money paid to the bond holder in financial terms. It corresponds to the interest recorded by this obligation on a regular basis. When interest is only paid after the bond has been financed (that is, if the loan is paid back), it is known as a nullification loan or nullification bond.
The term comes from the period when ties were still written on paper. It has a historical basis.
In exchange for payment of interest, separable coupons were then issued by bondholders.
It is also the case that the coupon unit is used to define the date on which the interest is paid (or dividends for shares).
